About
A small clinic with a long memory
Stillwater began in 2015 with one room, one table and a handwritten sign. It’s still one practitioner at the center, with a little help.

The practitioner
Maren Halvorsen, L.Ac.
Maren grew up in Essex Junction and worked six years as a hospital pharmacy technician before a stubborn shoulder sent her to an acupuncturist. What stayed with her was how much time the practitioner spent listening.
She trained in a three-year master’s program in Boston, then opened Stillwater in 2015 in a single room above a downtown bike shop. In 2019 the clinic moved to Millbrook Lane, and in 2021 it began its community evenings.
She treats the way she’d want to be treated: unhurried, honest about what acupuncture can and can’t do, and willing to say, “I think your doctor should look at this.” She’s licensed in Vermont and certified by the NCCAOM. Outside the clinic she’s on a cross-country ski trail or arguing with her sourdough starter.

In their words
- ★★★★★
“I’d put off acupuncture for years because I assumed it would be expensive and a little woo. The community evening was $35, Maren explained everything in plain English, and I slept like a rock that night.”

“Fifteen years of a stiff low back from a desk job. Six visits in, I get out of the car without that wince. Maren never promised anything. She just said, let’s see how you respond.”

“Priya remembered my name and how I take my tea by my second visit. The room is so quiet that I fell asleep both times.”
